spiked’s 2024 internship programme is now open for applications.

We’re looking for someone to help us produce our free and fearless journalism. You’ll be working across all our editorial output – from our articles, long-form essays and quickfire blogs to our podcasts, videos and social-media channels.

No experience is necessary. You don’t need a glittering CV with a long list of qualifications. What matters most is that you’re passionate about spiked’s pro-freedom, pro-human politics; that you’re hard-working, dedicated and willing to learn quickly; and that you have an eye for a good story and a flair for journalism.

The placement will be paid and last six months. Successful applicants will work with the spiked editorial team, five days a week, in our office in London. You’ll be given all the training you need to kickstart your career in journalism. Plus, if you do well, there’s the possibility of more work at the end of it.

How To Apply

You have until Sunday 19 May to apply. Interviews will take place in the final week of May. Successful applicants can start in the summer.

To apply for this year’s internship, email internships@spiked-online.com, attaching the following:

1) A CV and cover letter

In the cover letter, tell us a bit about yourself, why you’re the right person for the programme, and why you’d like to work at spiked.

2) An opinion piece

In 500 words, take a story in the news and write an opinion piece in response to it – something you could see fitting in on spiked. The aim here is concision, clarity and timeliness, in response to a recent news story or media discussion, rather than chin-stroking takes on a general theme. Also, give it a strong headline and standfirst – in spiked style.

3) A pitch for a long-form spiked piece

In no more than 300 words, write a pitch for a long-form spiked piece that would chime with our politics and our readers. This could be for a piece of on-the-ground reporting, a long profile of a particular political or intellectual figure, or a feature drawing on a mix of interviews, research and reporting.

We look forward to working with you!
