You will work with Tortoise’s data team to produce and publish data-driven and/or visual journalism projects.

In collaboration with the rest of the editorial team, and reporting to the Data and Digital Storytelling Editor, you will:

• Work on larger-scale data journalism projects
• Produce graphics for the Tortoise newsroom and commercial partners
• Perform data research and analysis tasks for other reporters and editors

Essential knowledge, skills and experience:

• Experience analysing datasets and using data to find stories
• Strong numeracy skills, including advanced knowledge of Google Sheets/Excel
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to write clear, concise copy on deadline
• Some journalism (or journalism-adjacent) experience is strongly preferred
• Experience visualising data (e.g. with Flourish or Datawrapper)
• Some knowledge of a statistical programming language (e.g. Python or R) is preferred but not required
• Some knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript is preferred but not required
• Any experience with version control (e.g. Git and Github) would be a bonus
