- Full-Time
- Starting Out
Sifted is looking for an editorial assistant to join our team of journalists covering the world of European tech.
The role will offer mentorship in all aspects of modern journalism. The successful candidate will be involved in everything from newsletter production and subediting, to writing articles and building a beat. You’ll be a core part of the editorial team, working closely with (and being managed by) the editors and receiving mentorship from a friendly team of journalists with experience at outlets like the Financial Times, Reuters, Fortune, BBC, Bloomberg and Dagens Industri.
Applicants for this role must be based in London, or willing to relocate. We strongly encourage anyone from an underrepresented background to apply for this role.
About Sifted
Sifted is an award-winning media publication backed by the Financial Times, reporting on the world of technology and startups in Europe. Six years after launching, our high-quality journalism is a must read for founders, operators and investors across European tech.
We’re friendly, hard-working and passionate about what we do. We have a flat structure, collaborate across disciplines and everyone has an impact across many areas of the business. We value feedback, honesty and clear communication.
What Will You be Doing?
You’ll be working closely with the whole editorial team — and the editors Amy, Tom and Mimi in particular — to help Sifted run a tight ship.
- Researching and writing articles
- Interviewing founders and investors, and building a network of sources
- Editing, uploading, proofing and scheduling newsletters
- Helping the editors manage the content calendar and ensure our publishing process
runs smoothly - Subbing, fact-checking and proofreading copy across Sifted — which includes
newsroom articles, newsletters, data briefings, commercial, marketing and events copy
— to an impeccably high standard - Crafting excellent headlines
Is This The Right Job For You?
If you have the following three traits, we think you’d be an excellent fit for this role:
- Proactivity. This is a role where the more you put in, the more you will get out. Self-starters thrive at Sifted; if you are hungry to learn, curious about everything and keen to roll up your sleeves and get stuck into a wide range of tasks, you’ll do well.
- Detail-oriented. You need to have meticulous attention to detail, a fastidious approach to fact checking and accuracy and be good at prioritising and organising your time.
- Collaborative. This role involves working closely with the rest of the newsroom. If you’re someone who enjoys working in a team-oriented environment, is open to feedback and communicates clearly, you’ll be a great fit.
Several previous editorial assistants and interns at Sifted have gone on to become reporters (and senior reporters) in our newsroom, so this is a role with a clear path of progression for those who jump on the opportunities given to them and are keen to learn.

- 28 days of annual leave, plus UK public holidays
