We are the TLS, a weekly paper about literature, ideas, and the arts. Our team of editors commissions high-quality essays and reviews by writers and experts from all over the world. 

Your Role:

You will be integral in publishing each week’s TLS, from uploading the paper to the website to helping the editorial team commission reviews. In the course of two years you will learn about every aspect of the paper, and be trained to edit pieces to our famously high standards.

At the end of the 2 year program you’ll complete your apprenticeship at TLS with a NCTJ Diploma in Journalism.

Being an apprentice at TLS: During your time with us you will earn above living wage, get full training, study towards your NCTJ Diploma qualification (with your course fees paid). You will also receive mentoring/coaching from the industry’s best, as well as any other equity you might need to fulfil your full potential.

Day to day you will: 

  • Act as a point of contact for our expert consultant editors
  • Assist with digital production, uploading digital edition to WordPress for TLS website and app every week
  • Liaise with publishers, requesting books for editors and recording all upcoming reviews
  • Work with the social media team
  • Support and learn from the editorial team in the commissioning and editing of copy
  • Manage all aspects of editorial administration

What we’re looking for from you: 

  • You have a genuine interest in our paper and its values
  • You have previous editorial experience
  • You appreciate the need for accuracy and attention to detail
  • You are highly personable with the ability to effectively communicate with various stakeholders such as contributors and colleagues across NewsUK.
  • You have strong organisation and time management skills
  • Experience in digital production and social media is not necessary but it would be a bonus!
