The Know is a media company on a mission to help people feel informed and hopeful. Our free 5-minute newsletter covers the big stories of the day without bias, sensationalism or clickbait. The Know reaches over 200,000 people every day.
We’re looking for a skilled freelance editor who can help prepare our newsletters for publication Monday through Friday, and transform this content into engaging social media posts. This is a rare opportunity to work closely with our co-founder and will suit an organised and efficient individual excited to make their mark in a purpose-driven media startup.
This freelance editor role is pivotal to ensuring all our newsletters are accurate, engaging, timely and produced in our unique tone of voice. It also includes designing social media posts in Canva.
You’ll be:

An experienced editor and writer, with a strong track record of working for online/print publications and sound editorial judgement

Organised, reliable and proactive, with the ability to work to tight deadlines on a daily newsletter

Aligned with our mission of creating succinct news summaries in a neutral and non-sensationalist way. You can recognise and amend phrasing that might feel emotionally charged or not in line with our ethos

Able to thrive in a remote-first environment

Comfortable with turning longer copy into engaging explainers for Instagram, and currently work in Canva on a regular basis

Comfortable using Content Management Systems

Available at our core times. Due to the nature of being a daily newsletter, we’ll require a final edit before send time which is 12pm Monday – Friday. This will generally take 15-30 minutes, between the hours of 10am-12pm. Additional hours are flexible and should be spread across the work week.
