About Good Law Project

Good Law Project’s mission is to use the law for a better world.

We are a young organisation with a great track record. We had a primary role in overturning the prorogation of Parliament in 2019 and have more recently been shining a bright light on the Government’s awarding of PPE contracts and jobs to friends and associates.

We raise funds directly from the public for our work in the public interest and operate on a not-for-profit basis. We are brave, honest, and decisive – those are Good Law Project’s values and they are detailed in the job pack.

We are now looking for a FREELANCE Investigative Journalist to cover a period of parental leave for 6 months.

You will report to the Head of Communications.

About the role

You will work developing stories about and around Good Law Project’s portfolio of litigation. These will be stories arising out of that litigation and on themes connected to that litigation. You will work largely on leads that Good Law Project generates and tip-offs we receive.

You will be accurate in the facts reported, deliver new insights, and draw relevant conclusions that will help us influence the debate and turn up the dial on injustice. As part of a small, ambitious team you will be both proactive and reactive, digging into and working up engaging stories to help tell the stories that need to be told and raise the profile of Good Law Project and its work with key audiences.

Key responsibilities:

    • Uncover stories and provide content to feature in high profile national print, broadcast, and online coverage;
    • Write and edit content for in-house publication, including our website and press releases, and for joint bylines;
    • Build relationships with relevant contacts and collect data from a variety of credible sources;
    • Interview people, sources and professionals and compile their responses;
    • Collaborate with fellow writers and editors;
    • Provide briefing on key angles that emerge out of the information and documents uncovered in the course of our litigation.
