Job Description

NBC News Digital London is seeking an ambitious and experienced reporter to cover international news. The person will mainly focus on the greater Middle East — including collaborating closely with producers and correspondents to cover breaking news and enterprise stories in the region. They will also be expected to help cover news elsewhere in the world, and pitch in on live blogs.

The successful candidate will be a dogged reporter and clear writer who can comfortably juggle same-day, bounces and enterprise pieces in a fast-paced environment while working with editors and reporters in London, New York, and LA and elsewhere.

You are the right person for the job if you have covered major international stories for an American audience, and thrive on beating the competition. You will have demonstrated a deep understanding of foreign news, and enjoy coming up with fresh angles on ongoing events.

You’ll also be comfortable thinking creatively about coverage and making the most of the digital storytelling format, ensuring you have the best photos, videos and other elements to provide context to a reader.

The role is based in London so applicants must have permission to work in the U.K. They will be expected to work from Sunday to Thursday and attend the office on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Producing several articles a week — occasionally several a day — ranging from breaking news and quick analyses to longer-term enterprise stories on a specific beat
  • Making full use of the range of NBC News resources, including network newsgathering and multimedia
  • Collaborating with producers, correspondents and reporters around the world
  • Staying across events, trends and personalities in region
  • Writing clean, fast and accurate copy

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of professional work experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of relevant work experience
  • Be a skilled reporter with outstanding communication skills
  • Desire to work in a creative, demanding and competitive environment
  • Willingness to travel to coverage area, sometimes at short notice

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience working in a digital-first newsroom or news environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and operate on tight deadlines
  • Experience with live coverage
  • Language skills other than English
