Press Data are currently looking for News Researchers to join their Nightshift Content and Editorial team based in central Edinburgh. The successful candidate will work as a part of a team throughout the night, monitoring key media sources for a wide range of clients, ensuring online sources are delivered by the morning.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Content and Editorial team monitors press, broadcast, and online content for an extensive list of clients across multiple sectors. News Researchers play a critical role in media monitoring, viewing, assessing, and delivering news items to meet their clients’ complex requirements.

Our Nightshift News Researchers work overnight to ensure that all relevant articles from the national press and online sources are delivered in our clients’ early morning summaries.

News Researchers are required to summarise and contextualise news articles and copyedit key content before it is sent to clients. Duties can vary depending on the situation, but key responsibilities include:

• Monitoring of press, online and broadcast sources accurately to agreed time targets
• Accurate selection of items according to individual client requirements
• Handling client delivery and quality control responsibilities, delivering articles to agreed deadlines
• Writing and sending accurate, concise summaries to meet tight deadlines
• Writing verbatim transcripts of broadcast items as selected by clients
• Maintaining and updating knowledge of client requirements, the media environment and working procedures
• Any other reasonable tasks as assigned by management

ABOUT YOU

The ideal candidate will be a passionate, organized individual with a background in journalism, media, or communications. The role requires proficiency in technology, the ability to meet tight deadlines, and a comprehensive understanding of UK current affairs, using bespoke media monitoring software.

Essential

• Excellent knowledge of UK current affairs
• Fast, accurate typing and good all‐round IT skills
• Ability to work and communicate well within a team structure
• Effective time management in order to meet multiple tight deadlines
• Excellent written and spoken English with in‐depth understanding of grammar

Desirable

• Previous experience of working in media monitoring or media intelligence role
• Ability to interpret, extract and evaluate written content accurately and at speed
• Qualification in journalism, media or communications subject
• Some writing or journalistic experience
