The Travel Media Awards Step Up scheme is an internship programme designed to drive diversity and inclusion in travel media for young people, by giving 18-30 year olds from underrepresented backgrounds the opportunity to gain experience and mentorship in journalism, publishing and public relations.

The scheme is offering FIVE successful candidates the chance to undertake invaluable work placement with 10 leading travel media companies, each undertaking a four-week placement with two partner companies. Successful candidates will each work with two of the below partner companies, which have been paired as follows:

• APL Media & FINN Partners
• TTG Media & Intrepid Travel
• The Sun & Virgin Atlantic
• Metro & easyJet holidays
• Ink Global & Kuoni

Step Up interns will also receive a further six months of mentoring, as well as join us at this year’s Travel Media Awards in autumn 2025, with promising careers ahead of them in travel media, be that consumer, trade or PR. The Step Up programme is open to anyone aged 18-30 who can demonstrate a passion for travel media and identifies as coming from an underrepresented demographic, such as individuals from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities and those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Applicants must be UK residents and have the right to work.

The internship duration is eight weeks, taking place in summer 2025 (provisionally June and July). Interns will spend four weeks with one company followed by four weeks with another.

Candidates will be shortlisted by the Step Up internship team and finalists will be invited for interviews with a judging panel made up of senior staff from the partner companies. Ultimately, five candidates will be selected for internships and informed no later than May.

The timeline for the selection process is:

• 31 January 2025 — Applications close.
• March 2025 — Shortlisted candidates asked to provide a video and invited to interview.
• April 2025 — Interviews and winners announced. Candidates must be available in the first week of April for an in-person interview in London.
• June – July 2025 — Placements.

Salary Range

Interns will be paid London Living Wage for the eight weeks of work.
