Leading B2B travel magazine TTG is seeking a talented, dedicated and supremely well-organised sub editor to join our fast moving, fearless independent media business with an award-winning reputation in the travel industry, and throughout B2B media.

The role is on a two-day-per-week basis to cover a period of maternity leave and offers the flexibility to work from home (via Slack), in the office or a hybrid of both according to the candidate’s preference.

TTG Media

TTG Media is passionate about championing sustainability, diversity, equity and inclusion. We are committed to our purpose of championing a ‘Smarter, Better, Fairer’ travel – a vision which led to us being named Campaign magazine’s Business Media Brand of the Year in 2020, and the PPA’s Independent Publishing Company of the Year in 2019. We have also been crowned Trade Publication of the Year both for print and online for three years running by the Travel Media Awards.

TTG Media started life as Travel Trade Gazette in 1953, but while our monthly magazine remains core to the business, the company now has an ever-growing portfolio of other print magazines, a busy website, and a series of events and awards that connect and inform the UK travel industry.

The successful candidate will work together with TTG’s three-day-a-week, permanent-contract sub editor to ensure the company’s print and digital content is produced accurately and to deadline. They will possess an exceptional eye for detail, a passion for accuracy and a flair for language – and will be able to thrive in a highly pressurised environment.

They must have significant proven experience in a similar role, and be comfortable liaising with writers and editors to take in amends to editorial pages and also rewriting copy where necessary for print magazines and the TTG website. They will also work closely with the creative director and production manager to ensure all deadlines are met.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • To do a first sub-edit of print pages, including subbing to fit, writing headlines, standfirsts and captions; thorough fact-checking; and implementation of house style
  • To share responsibility with the existing three-day-a-week sub for the final proofing of all print pages
  • To assist with the smooth production flow of pages through the proofing process
  • Sub-editing of web stories posted daily on ttgmedia.com
  • To act as a guardian of TTG’s style and tone via its print and online product
  • To proof marketing copy and advertorials/sponsored content where necessary, online and in print

Essential skills and requirements

  • Proven experience of working on a busy production/subs’ desk
  • A meticulous eye for detail and exceptional understanding of punctuation and grammar
  • Proficiency in InDesign, and a working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop
  • Outstanding organisation skills, and ability to switch between products and platforms swiftly
  • Experience uploading and manipulating content on a CMS

Company benefits

  • Vitality health insurance
  • Life insurance at four times annual salary
  • Company pension
  • Regular opportunities to travel
