Applications are now invited for the Daily Mail editorial training scheme (sub-editors) that begins in September 2019.
We are looking for budding subs, with an excellent grounding in the English language, who want to work for Britain’s most successful newspaper group.
Our trainee sub-editors embark on a year-long programme that involves intense training, assessment and on-the-job experience at a national newspaper.
The successful applicants will probably have a degree and will have shown a commitment to journalism by working for their student newspaper or website and gained work experience in newsrooms.
We want self-starters with a real interest in current affairs and a proven track record in grammar, punctuation and accuracy. A flair for headline writing and page layout skills would be a bonus.
Previous graduates of the training scheme now hold senior positions on the Mail and its sister paper the Mail on Sunday.
The course starts in September with an intensive in-house training month during which the trainees are introduced to Mail style and culture. It is followed by five months placement – at either Metro in London, the Mail in Scotland or the Irish Daily Mail in Dublin – after which the trainees will join the subs department.
Trainees will be on the best journalism course in the business and paid a competitive salary while they train. Nearly all are offered staff jobs at the end.
