Is Being Welsh Affecting Our Mental Health? I Think So
Hi Victoria,
I hope you’re well.
My name is Lowri and I’m a freelance lifestyle journalist.
Hooked on a March 6 documentary airing on BBC iPlayer about how being Welsh may affect our mental health, I’d love to write this for Voices and wondered if it could be a fit?
[Pitch] Is being Welsh affecting our mental health? I think so.
Depending on how charitable our neighbours – and the London-centric British media – are feeling, the language with which I use to communicate with the world is either dead, dying, or useless. Or we’re just saving it for when the English walk into the pub.
During lockdown Wales was invaded by big-city dwellers with zero regard for our limited medical resources, who then hoovered up our limited housing stock to use as country boltholes or buy-to-let cash cows.
We’re called ”parasites” for receiving free NHS prescriptions – you know, from the government that drowned our villages and tried to murder our language – while ancient place names vanish from guide books in favour of tourist-friendly translations devoid of any history.
Is it any wonder being Welsh may be affecting our mental health?

Just a heads-up that I’m pitching this to other publications, so please let me know as soon as possible if you’d like it.
